Friend Day at HCC is Sunday, April 8th beginning at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring a friend to church that day and then join us for an all church carry-in dinner following the morning worship; and then everyone is encouraged to meet at the bowling alley for some Sunday afternoon friendly competition and fun! This event will kick-off our “C3” Wednesday winter semester with some fun, food, and fellowship. We’ll eat, play games (Bible Bowl) and more!

We want to invite everyone to find a place to volunteer with these the awesome kids of HCC! This Sunday, you are invited to an excellent opportunity to learn more about the children’s ministry. This brief meeting will follow church this Sunday the 28th to talk about activities and curriculum for the preschool and elementary kids and also about where we need more folks to help in this ministry.

Please save the date for our annual Happy Birthday Jesus party! We will read the story of Jesus’ birth, make Christmas cards, sing Christmas carols, play Nativity Bingo, have a special yummy snack, and play a new Christmas penguin drop disk game. We will also collect gifts for the needy babies of the Topper tots program. The greatest need of these children are for books, sippy cups, and wipes.

This Trunk or Treat is going to be even more special than previous years. We welcome back David Taylor, a minister and the talent behind the show “Message in Magic.” Last year, he did a brief mini show with us. This year, he will perform an hour show with jaw dropping illusions. His background in both ministry and entertainment enable him to uniquely present messages of God’s love and salvation plan to audiences. We not only want everyone at the event to have a good time; we want them to hear the message of Christ’s love and to hear the gospel. Taylor does this in an approachable way through simple terms. Children and adults alike will enjoy his humor, his talent, and his doves and white rabbit.
In addition to “Message in Magic,” we will have a large slide and bounce inflatable, mini pumpkins to decorate, face painting by Emily Sell, food, and of course, lots of candy! We hope to bring joy to our church’s kids and to draw several families to this church. We also hope that moving the date from Halloween will encourage new folks to attend who have not came in previous years due to neighborhood or family trick or treating.
We could really use all the help we can make to make this event a success! You can be a part of this community outreach event in a number of different areas: Registration, Inflatable monitor, Workers for games, Helpers for the munchkin pumpkin decorating table, Food preparers/servers.
Wednesday, October 18, the children’s group will take a field trip to “Into the Fire” to make a beautiful Nativity canvas. The painting class will take place from 6-8pm. Church member children will be free, but they are welcome to bring friends for the excellent discount of only $15 per child. Pizza will be provided for dinner. Please RSVP to Autumn no later than October 11 as she needs to give a final count to Into the Fire by that date. This trip is an extension of the Wednesday evening’s children’s curriculum “Exploring the Bible through Song and Art.”

The event will be held in the new football stadium at ETSU, and the Mini Dome is our backup location for inclement weather.
The event will have a strong local focus, and will consist of local ministry leaders. Praise and worship music will be intertwined throughout the evening. Songs will consists of your favorite traditional hymns, and your favorite modern worship songs!
Part of the event will focus on our drug epidemic in Appalachia. We will uncover the depths of our issue as well as provide a solution to our problem. We want to RESTORE APPALACHIA, and provide healing for those who are hurting and broken. We will all pray together, praise together, and serve together as the Body of Christ unified under the blood of Jesus.

September is childhood cancer awareness month. As Christians, we strive to raise children to have a fervent desire to help those around them. It is because of this desire that Harrison will host a fun evening on September 6 to raise support for the children of St Jude. All kids are encouraged to collect pledges and then on September 6 to bring their bikes, trikes, scooters, or big wheels to do laps with their friends. At the event, we will enjoy an evening cookout and carry in dinner. There will also be an opportunity to fellowship with members of our neighboring church and VBS partner, North Johnson City Baptist, while watching both churches’ kids ride for the wonderful cause of St Jude.
St Jude is a leading children’s hospital pioneering research and treatments for kids with cancer and other life threatening diseases. No child is denied treatment because a family is unable to pay. Unlike any other hospital, the majority of St Jude’s fundraising comes from individual contributions. And thanks to donations from events like this one, families never receive a bill from St Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
How can you help? Over the next several weeks, kids will collect money through pledge sheets. There will also be opportunities at the September 6 event to give donations to support the children’s efforts. Last year, our children raised over $1,100 for St Jude. We would love to match or exceed that amount. Please keep the event in your prayers, and please encourage these children to grow spiritually in their mission to help others.
The cost is only $55/player and includes a catered lunch. Prizes will be awarded for various accomplishments and you can also purchase some coupons to be used in the tournament to “help” your team. Additionally, hole sponsors are available for $300 and cart sponsors available for $100. All the money raised benefits the ministry efforts of East Tennessee Christian Home and Academy.
The event will feature a 1 p.m. shotgun start. This tournament is designed for participation by both men and women of all skill levels. Twosomes of all men, all women, all seniors or mixed teams are encouraged.
• Play will be a two-person select shot format.
• Play will be in two teams (four players) on all holes. When the number of players exceeds 72, an additional two to four players will be assigned first to the Par 5 holes and then to the other holes as needed.
• Play will be limited to the first 50 teams who register.
• Refreshments and a meal will be served during and after the tournament.
• Trophies and prizes will be awarded in four divisions — Men, Women, Senior and Mixed — with three places in each division. Senior is 68 years and older.
• First place team winners will be awarded a trophy and a visit to the Prize Table to select a prize of their choice. Second-place and third-place team winners will be given an opportunity to visit the Prize Table to select a prize with the second-place winners going after the first-place team winners. Third-place team winners will select last.
The tournament will once again be hosted at the beautiful Elizabethton Golf Course at 185 Buck VanHuss Road in Elizabethton, TN. From their website,
“Elizabethton Golf Course is the home of the annual East Tennessee Amateur Golf Tournament and the home course for 3 area High School Golf Teams and the Milligan College Golf Team. Although not particularly long at 6,339 yards, the course offers some very challenging putting surfaces along with a good mix of elevation shifts to offer all types of players a tough yet fun golf outing.”
