Apple butter has been a part of our history for generations. Once again this year, apple butter making will be the focal point of a day long event for people of all ages and from all around our community.
On September 27, we will hold our second annual Apple butter Festival with live music, games, an outdoor service, and much, much more from 10:30am-4pm. We hope that this event also services as a community outreach and ask that you encourage people to attend.
So mark your calendars and volunteer to assist with this exciting event!

Please pre-register by Sunday, 9/20. Late registrants will be accepted, but knowing in advance will help us with planning for the contest. To register, please complete the registration form below and place it in the basket in the church foyer. Or, you may register online at HCC’s website.
Please bring your pie, registration form (if not already submitted), and recipe to the HCC Kitchen by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27 (the day of the festival). Judging will begin at about 2:20 p.m. Once all of the pies have been judged, the results will be tallied on the spot and winners will be announced.
We give special thanks to our judges, members of ‘The Mountain Empire’ bluegrass band (our guest band for the day!).
Pie judging criteria include:
- appearance/presentation (20 points)
- crust (20 points)
- filling – consistency, flavor (20 points)
- overall taste (25 points)
- creativity (15 points)
Aside from the glory and high acclaim of having made the best homemade apple pie at HCC this year, the winner will receive a special gift to commemorate this prestigious accomplishment!
